Containment sizing worksheet

Two quick calculations to get you started. They run in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. Always confirm the rule that applies to your site.

Part A

Starting capacity

For hazardous waste container storage, United States rules (40 CFR 264.175) ask for the larger of two figures: the volume of the largest container, or one tenth of the total volume stored. For oil, the SPCC rule asks for the largest container plus enough room for rainwater. The worksheet shows both pieces so you can apply the one that fits.

Part B

Volume of a rectangular bund

Measure the inside length and width and the wall height. The result ignores space taken up by tank bases and anything else standing inside, so leave a margin.

0gallons gross capacityLength x width x height in feet, times 7.48 gallons per cubic foot.
